Students to join anti-Arroyo protest on friday
Press Release
February 13, 2008
Students announced today their intention to join this Friday’s multi-sectoral rally at Ayala avenue to intensify calls for the removal of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo from power.
“We have given Arroyo seven years worth of chances. That is long enough to prove her worth as president. Sadly, it was seven years of lies and crimes. Now is the time for her to be made accountable,” said Vencer Crisostomo, national chairperson of the LFS.
“She has stolen the people’s votes in 2004, has used the Armed Forces and Police as henchmen to protect her rotten regime by using violence against the people, and is guilty of various corruption controversies,” he added.
The youth group made their announcement regarding this Friday’s rally along with other youth and student formations in a meeting of convenors of YOUTH REVOLT, a broad alliance to consolidate youth efforts for the resignation of Arroyo, at De La Salle University in Taft Avenue today.
The LFS also challenged former House Speaker de Venecia and Commission on Higher Education Chief Romulo Neri to fully expose Arroyo’s crimes against the people.
In response to de Venecia’s statement asking the people to give Arroyo a chance to explain, Crisostomo said that “De Venecia, of all people, should know that an explanation from Arroyo will be just full of lies and deceit.”
“This friday, we shall prove that today’s youth is not tired of people power and in going to the streets to call for an end to a rotten government. We don’t have people power fatigue, but Arroyo-fatigue,” said Crisostomo. ###
