MANILA, Philippines – Militant students in Metro Manila schools will walk out of their classes this Thursday and on Friday next week to demand for the removal of the expanded value-added tax on oil products.

DZRH reported that the League of Filipino Students (LFS) expects “thousands” of students to join the “class walkout” against EVAT.

LFS chairman Vencer Crisostomo declined to say which school will join the walkout.

The LFS is allied with several militant groups calling for the removal of the EVAT on fuel products, amid weekly increases in prices of fuel.

Only last Monday, the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines called on government to study the possibility of removing the EVAT if only to help affected sectors cope with skyrocketing costs of living. – GMANews.TV
